Heroes

A physicians assistant, a disaster relief worker, and a medical missionary all have one big thing in common; they focus on aiding people who are hurt and need help. These heroes put others before themselves and work extremely hard to save lives. I am proud to say my sister works as a PA and I know how hard she works to help others who are hurting. I hope people who have received care from these people stop to say thank you and realize how important they are.

My goal is to say that I have worked in even one of these positions, if not all. I have a desire in my heart to serve others' physical needs through medicine and their spiritual needs through the gospel. When my sister chose her profession I was given the inspiration to choose mine. At first, I simply wanted to be a PA, but now my heart goes out to those who are living in underprivileged places overseas. 

I have been very privileged to live out of the states in Korea and broaden my horizons. My school has sponsored mission trips to many countries, and I have been on two of those to Indonesia; also, my family has been to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. In these places I have seen very poor people who don't have much and their need, but I have also seen the smiles on their faces and felt the warmth of their hearts.

There is an organization called the Gilead Institute; they are a medical missionary organization. In their about page, they talk about how we are to follow Jesus' example of healing the sick. It says, "...our perfect Example endeavored to teach His followers that God is concerned with both the spiritual and physical needs of man." I agree; we can show love through actions of physical and spiritual aid.

I believe that all people can change others' lives no matter how small. You don't have to work in medicine, you could simply be the one who says a kind word or pays attention. Everyone can be a hero and helping others' should be a very important component of any line of work.
